LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Thursday issued a notice to the Election Commission of Pakistan on a petition challenging cancellation of three election tribunal members’ contracts.
Ghulam Husain Bosal, an independent candidate from PP-119, in 2013 election, filed the petition through Advocate Dr Abdul Basit.
The counsel argued before the court the ECP decided against extending contracts of members of the election tribunals of Lahore, Multan and Faisalabad after decisions of NA-122, NA-125 and NA-154. He said the ECP had acted out of malice as the decisions of the tribunals were against the ruling PML-N. He also questioned appointment of the four provincial members of the commission. He pleaded that the tribunal’s members be allowed to continue to work till decisions of all pending election petitions.
Justice Ijazul Ahsan sought a reply from the ECP within two weeks.
