GUJRANWALA: The Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) Gujranwala chapter on Thursday expressed grievances against drug inspectors’ raids at their private hospitals and clinics and alleged harassment by them without any justification.

It demanded the health authorities stop the raids.

The grievances were expressed at a meeting, presided over by PMA President Dr Sajjad Mustafa and former President Dr Mian Zahid Mahmood here on Thursday.

The PMA office-bearers said drug inspectors were conducting raids without making any discrimination between quacks and qualified doctors. They alleged that drug inspectors entered their private hospitals and clinics like police officers and harassed them on the pretext of the special drive of the Punjab government against quacks.

They suggested a senior officer of the level of executive district officer (EDO) or district health officer (DHO) should accompany the drug inspectors.

A former president of the PMA, Dr Ghulzar Ahmad Chaudhry, said 85pc burden of the health department was being shared by the private hospitals and clinics and any unwise steps by the authorities could create problems for the government and the public.

Dr Zafar and Dr SM Ahsan also spoke.

EDO Health Dr Saeedullah Khan was the chief guest, who delivered a lecture on dengue virus, said their reservations would be resolved soon.

SUSPENDED: Two sub-divisional officers (SDOs) of Hafizabad sub-division No 3 and Daska sub-division were suspended from service for poor performance.

They were identified as Imtiaz and Zainul Abideen, respectively.

A line superintendent of Hafizabad, Irshad, was also suspended from service on bad performance.
