KARACHI: The Pakistan Petroleum Ltd (PPL) has made another hydrocarbon discovery at its exploration well Fazl X-I located in Hala block.

Hala block, which covers an area of around 276 square kilometres, is a joint venture between PPL and Mari Petroleum Company Ltd, with 65 per cent and 35pc working interest, respectively.

The block straddles Sanghar and Matiari districts in Sindh, said Mari in a filing with the stock exchanges on Wednesday. The exploration well was spud on May 29 this year and final depth of 4,067 metres was reached on Aug 12.

Mari said that as informed by PPL (the operator) based on wire line logs and drilling results, potential hydrocarbon bearing zones were identified within Lower Goru Massive Sand.

During initial testing, the flow was 20.3 mmscfd (million standard cubic feet per day) gas along with 50 barrels per day condensate at 48/64 inches choke size, which confirmed the presence of commercial quantities of natural gas and condensate at Fazl X-1.

“The well is being flowed at different choke sizes to measure the gas flow rates, and the actual flow potential of the well will be determined after completion of the test,” the filing said.

The discovery at Fazl X-I is the third in the block after Adam X-I and Adam West X-I.
