ISLAMABAD: A senior leader of Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) has blamed the Sharif brothers for the last year’s killings of PAT workers in Lahore’s Model Town and Islamabad and said that they can never be forgiven.

Shehzad Hussain Naqvi, PAT’s central deputy chief organiser, said in a statement on Tuesday that his party had rejected the report of a joint investigation team on the Model Town incident.

“The FIR against the Sharif brothers exists and it will be pursued when the time comes,” he added.

Mr Naqvi accused the Sharif brothers of victimising their political opponents and turning a blind eye to cases in which members of the PML-N were allegedly involved.

Rejecting the claims of the government that institutions in the country were now strong and independent, the PAT leader said that if institutions were independent why cases against the Sharif brothers and their supporters were not being opened.

Talking about actions being taken against PPP leaders, especially in Sindh, he said that the time was not far away when the Sharif brothers would also be made accountable.

The PAT leader claimed that the government had failed in finding solution of any of the country’s problems. The country needed a strong leadership which could steer it out of the crisis, he added.
