KARACHI: Senior lawyer Abdul Hafeez Pirzada passed away on Tuesday night in a London hospital where he was undergoing treatment since mid-July. He was 80 years old.
A lawyer of the Supreme Court, Mr Pirzada last appeared before the Judicial Commission as the lead lawyer of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf. He presented the PTI’s case related to allegations about systematic rigging in the 2013 general elections.
Son of a former Sindh chief minister, Abdul Sattar Pirzada, the seasoned lawyer was one of the founding members of the PPP. He contested the general elections in 1970 and 1977 from the platform of the PPP and became a senior member of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto’s cabinet.
Mr Pirzada is credited to have authored the 1973 Constitution, which was unanimously passed by parliament.
