LAHORE: The city will have eight checkpoints, being established exclusively to curb supply of unhygienic meat to consumers.

These posts to be manned by officials of livestock, police and respective town municipal administrations will be operational by Thursday (tomorrow).

According to senior officials, the checkpoints will be established at new and old Ravi bridges, Saggian, Muhafiz Town, Thokar Niaz Baig, Gajjumata, Babu Sabu and Khyaban-i-Jinnah intersection (Raiwind Road).

“Since the check posts are exclusively meant for stopping supply of dead or sick animals’ meat to Lahore from adjoining areas, the officials to be deputed there must be trained to assess the meat quality,” Lahore Commissioner Abdullah Khan Sumbal said presiding over a meeting here on Tuesday.

He directed the DCOs of Lahore and adjoining districts to take coordinated steps to arrest those involved in the heinous business. He said the respective assistant commissioners must also devise a plan with regard to the drive against unhygienic meat, setting specific targets and the means to achieve them.

Earlier, the meeting was informed by Lahore DCO regarding a recent capacity-building workshop organised by the CDGL in this regard. He said these check posts would be operational after a day.

He said the city administration would soon advertising its toll-free and whats-ap complaint numbers so that action could be taken against violators.

AUCTION: The Lahore Development Authority auctioned 10 sites and a shop for Rs444.1 million.

According to an LDA spokesman, the auctioned sites are situated in LDA Avenue-1, Jubilee Town, Park and Shop Plaza, Moon Market and Allama Iqbal Town.

As many as 29 bidders participated in the open auction held at LDA Community Centre, 239-A, New Muslim Town.

The auction was conducted and supervised by the LDA Director (Finance) Zaheer Asghar Rana, Directors Estate Management Muhammad Numan Khan and Akbar Nakai, and Director Land Development-I Muhammad Asasd Ameer.

DEMOLISHED: An LDA team razed an unlawfully constructed boundary wall in LDA City. The team also retrieved 200 kanals of land after demolishing the boundary wall.

Similarly, another team in Johar town removed a number of encroachments along the road (from Tikka Khan Chowk to Doctors Hospital) including G-1 Market.

Meanwhile, CDGL price control magistrates got arrested 72 shopkeepers, besides imposing Rs41,500 fine on others for overcharging.

Eateries sealed: Punjab Food Authority (PFA) teams sealed on Tuesday eateries and manufacturing units besides imposing fine on their owners for violating food handling and hygiene standards.

According to a PFA spokesperson, in Ravi Town, the PFA sealed Fazal-i-Haq Siri Pai, Phajja Siri Pai and Nasir Sri Pai in Gawalmandi and got three people arrested.

It also sealed two unnamed meat shops and got their owners arrested. It sealed Arif Chatkhara House.

The team in Gulberg town sealed the Food Factory Restaurant, Tandoori Fast Food Restaurant, HFC restaurant, Barbeque Tonight on Noor Jahan Road and Saway Restaurant on Gurumangat Road.

It fined Shaheen Shinwari Restaurant in Faisal Town and Subway Restaurant on MM Alam Road.

In Data Ganj Bakhsh Town, a team sealed canteens of the American Lycetuf and MQ Foundation schools in Shah Jamal, Hotel-One on The Mall, Shezan Hotel in Abid Market and Gourmet Sweets and Bakers on Sanda Road.

The PFA team in Ravi Town sealed Azam Chanay Wala, Yaseen Samosay wala, Umar Halwa Puri, Safeer Millk Shop, Bashir Naan Shop, Koozi Haleem, Kings Falooda, Haji Hotel Kitchen and Nadeem Milk Shop. The team also imposed fine on Shahzad Mirch Chakki at Yakki Gate and Butt Sweets in Manga Mandi main bazaar.

Iqbal, Nishtar, Samanabad, Shalimar and Wagah towns’ PFA teams sealed Al-Hafiz restaurant (near General Hospital), Shahbaz Milk shake and Juice and Ali Hajveri Pan Shop on Wahdat Road and Al-Hamra Juice Corner and Hafiz Store on GT Road.

The teams imposed fine on Butt Dahi Bhallay on Sehar Road, Gourmet Restaurant and Jhoolay laal Fish Corner.
