ISLAMABAD: Continuing his winning streak, top seed Aqeel Khan reached the men’s singles quarter-finals in the Fauji Fertilizer Company Open National Ranking Tennis Championships here at the Pakistan Sports Complex hardcourts on Tuesday.

Besides Aqeel, Yasir Khan, Mohammad Mudassir, Mohammad Abid, Usman Rafiq and Imran Shoukat also made the last-eight stage.

Meanwhile, Abid Ali Akbar and Heera Ashiq comfortably won their first-round matches in straight sets, overpowering Mohammad Muzammil and Israr Gul, respectively.

Top-ranked Aqeel outclassed Shahzad 6-4, 6-3 while other seeded players also beat their opponents in straight sets without facing any notable resistance.

Meanwhile in the boys u-18 category, Saqib Umar recorded a major upset when he overcame third seed Huzaifa Abdul Rehman 6-0, 6-2 in the u-18 and u-14 event here at the PTF Complex.

Saqib’s supremacy can be gauged from the fact that he conceded only two games throughout the match.

While another upset in the u-18 event was registered when Hafiz Arbab Ali defeated seventh seed Shoaib Khan 7-5, 6-4, all other seeded players reached the quarter-finals comfortably.

In the boys u-14 singles, Huzaifa Abdul Rehman, Mustafa Khan, Hamza Bin Rehan, Abdullah Adnan, Sami Zaib, Aqib Umar, Izhar Iftikhar and Shoaib Khan won their respective matches to qualify for the quarter-finals.
