KARACHI: Sialkot’s Abdullah Shafiq and Hasan Mohsin of Karachi Blues shared the opening day’s honours in the PCB Inter-region Under-19 Cricket Tournament with sparkling unbeaten centuries while guiding their teams to crushing victories.

Opening the innings, Abdullah hammered 109 from 147 deliveries with the aid of 16 boundaries and one six as Sialkot collected 179-1 in the 37th over to seal a nine-wicket win in their Group ‘B’ fixture against Abbottabad at the Jinnah Stadium in Gujranwala.

Opener Hasan smashed 103 off only 86 balls with 11 hits to the fence as Karachi Blues amassed 336-6 in the allotted 50 overs before restricting their Group ‘C’ rivals Peshawar to 158-9 at the Marghazar Cricket Ground in Islamabad.

In the Group ‘A’ game here at the UBL Sports Complex, Karachi Whites defeated Quetta by 34 runs with Alam Khurshid Shah producing a good all-round performance.

After scoring a handy 30 not out, the slow left-armer grabbed two wickets as Quetta were dismissed for 193 while chasing 228.

In other first-round matches, Hyderabad beat Larkana by 16 runs, Bahawalpur winning by 29 runs over Lahore Blues, Multan defeating Dera Murad Jamali by six wickets, Rawalpindi crushing Lahore Whites by 109 runs, Islamabad thrashing Faisalabad by eight wickets and Fata handing Azad Jammu Kashmir a demoralising 123-run defeat.

The next round of matches is scheduled for Thursday.
