CARDIFF: Natalie Sciver starred with both bat and ball as England Women ended a disappointing Ashes campaign with a five-wicket victory over Australia in the final Twenty20 International here on Monday.

Sciver took four for 15, following Anya Shrubsole’s four for 11, as Australia were held to 111 for nine.

England, who had slumped to 87 all out at Hove on Friday in a series-losing defeat, collapsed to 22 for three before Sciver top-scored with 47.

But England’s victory could not prevent Australia winning the multi-format series 10-6.

“We spoke about getting something from this last match and to beat the best team in the world is something we should be proud of but missing out on that run chase at Hove makes it doubly disappointing as a group,” said England captain Charlotte Edwards.

“Ultimately Australia have been the better team but when we have played at our best we have matched them.”

Australia skipper Meg Lanning added: “We were disappointing today but have to give credit to England, they came out really hard and came to play today.

“The Test match win was really special, to get those 10 wickets on that final day is something I will never forget.”—AFP
