ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf chairman Imran Khan on Sunday congratulated the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government on successful holding of the local government elections and swearing in of its representatives.

In a statement issued by the party’s Central Media Cell, the PTI chief said that empowerment of 40,000 persons, including women, was a major milestone in the democratic history of Pakistan.

He pointed out that PTI had fulfilled its commitment of devolving real power to the people who would now have the political and financial authority to make decisions about their lives at the village level with the KP government’s plan to transfer 30 per cent of funds to the local level.

The PTI chairman said that no other province had promulgated a Local Government Act for true devolution. He said that the local government system introduced in KP would alter the political landscape of Pakistan as the ordinary people found themselves truly empowered.

“This is the Naya Pakistan being built in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,” Mr Khan said and added that this was one of the major achievements of the PTI’s manifesto and its commitment to the people of Pakistan.
