ISLAMABAD: Workers of Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) and the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) on Sunday held a rally and a vigil in memory of those who were killed and injured during a clash with the police in Islamabad on August 30 last year.
The PAT workers and local leaders held the rally from China Chowk to D-Chowk. Retired Brigadier Mushtaq Ahmed read out a message of PAT chief Tahirul Qadri in which the latter stated that on August 14 last year workers of his party reached Islamabad to get justice for the 14 people who sacrificed their lives at Model Town Lahore in June 2014.
The protesters demanded that the report of the Judicial Commission headed by Justice Baqir Naqvi should be made public and the killing case of the PAT workers in Lahore should be referred to a military court.
PAT leader Khurram Nawaz Gandapur said justice was yet to be provided to the families of those killed in Model Town.
“Our protest is symbolic and we will again come to Islamabad to hold a sit-in for our rights,” he said.
Meanwhile, the PTI held a vigil in front of the National Press Club for its wounded workers.
The vigil was led by Member National Assembly Nafisa Inayat Khattak and local leader Ali Nawaz Awan.
Later, the workers of both the parties dispersed peacefully.
