KARACHI: A suspected terrorist was killed in an encounter with law-enforcement personnel and a shopkeeper was gunned down in a robbery attempt on Sunday night, police said.

According to Landhi SP Afnan Amin, a police contingent patrolling near Bagh-i-Korangi was attacked by three gunmen. The attackers tried to flee from the scene.

The policemen chased the assailants and during the ensuing exchange of fire one of them was killed. The other two suspects managed to flee, said Mr Amin.

In the second incident, two men on a motorcycle stopped at a general store in Nazimabad No 3 and one of them asked those inside to hand over whatever money they had.

According to Central SSP Muqaddas Haider, the owner of the store and his sons got hold of one of the suspects, who whipped out a revolver and opened fire at them.

As a result, 45-year-old Mohammed Farooq was killed while his father Mohammed Ismail and brother Haroon Ismail were injured.

The suspects managed to flee from the crime scene, said Mr Haider.
