LAHORE: The ruling PML-N on Sunday completed interviews of aspirants to tickets for the forthcoming local body polls being held in 275 union councils of the provincial metropolis.

At least 5,500 candidates were interviewed during the last four days for offices of union council chairperson, vice-chairperson and general councilors.

The party had divided the metropolis in four zones with three National Assembly constituencies in each zone for interviews.

Zone-I comprised NA-118, 119 and 123. MPA Chaudhry Shahbaz led the interview committee for it.

MPA Rana Iqbal was head of the committee for zone-II consisting of NA-120, 121 and 122, MPA Ghazali Saleem Butt interviewed aspirants to NA-124, 126 and 127 that fell in zone-III, while MPA Yasin Sohal was the chief for the zone-IV committee that covered NA-128, 129 and 130.

A party official said that three names for each UC would be selected from the interviewees and referred to the parliamentary board already set up under the chair of Hamza Shahbaz Sharif.

He said the top most would be offered the slot of chairperson and the second of vice-chairperson while the third one would be offered political offices or accommodation of his relative on the seats reserved for women and labour, etc. in union and town councils.

Similarly, the selection criteria for general councilors would be the personal vote bank and experience (former councilor), he added.

He said that party tickets would be issued latest by Sept 10 as Sept 11 is the last date set by the Election Commission in the election schedule for the purpose.
