LAHORE: The favourite backers had a disastrous day when only two fancied horses obliged them in a card of six events during the 15th Lahore Summer Meeting at the Racecourse here on Sunday.

The punters rout began right from the first race when long shot bay gelding Shannel sailed home ahead of his six rivals. They suffered yet another setback when a dark horse Chal Samney strolled past the finish line to claim the second race. He beat even-money favourite filly Pepina by about three lengths.

The punters’ miseries by no means ended there when even-money favourite chestnut colt Right On The Money was beaten by five to two chance horse Aboor in the third race.

Immediately afterwards they had to face yet another shock in the fourth race in which their fancy the 60 to 100 favourite bay filly Baby On Board was beaten by a head’s narrow margin from neglected bay mare Kit Kat.

The Punters finally got some respite in the fifth and sixth races when 30 to 100 favourite bay gelding Victory Malik and odds-on favourite colt Glittering Star won. But both the victories could not suffice their losses suffered in the earlier four races.
