Unproductive visits

Published August 31, 2015

PRIME minister Sharif was recently in Kazakhstan. This adds to a large number of countries he has already visited since assuming office. None of these visits has produced any results for the country in terms of foreign direct investment (FDI) and exports, which are on the decline.

On the other hand, we have seen diplomatic blunders and mishandling of foreign relations.

Also, Indian Prime MinisterModi has been pursuing a pragmatic foreign policy and has succeeded in enlarging India’s exports and mobilising huge inflow of FDI, the latest being the investment agreement of $75bn with the UAE.

Mr Sharif should pay attention to domestic issues and spend time within the country for accelerating implementation of the National Action Plan.
