KARACHI: The main accused, who allegedly fired a shot at the car of former captain of Pakistan cricket team Wasim Akram, has been reportedly pardoned by the cricketer after tendering an unconditional apology apparently in an attempt to settle the case out of court, it emerged on Sunday.

Retired Major Amirul Rehman has reportedly written a letter to the cricketer describing the road-rage shooting incident as ‘sad’.

He also termed Mr Akram a national hero and pride of the country.

He reportedly said the whole incident was a ‘misunderstanding’ and also stated that he faced opposition from his family members in favour of Mr Akram.

However, Gulshan SP Abid Qaimkhani told Dawn that they had heard about such a letter through the electronic media, but so far both the parties — the accused and the complainant — had not approached the police for a compromise.

He said Mr Amir had got bail from a court in the case while another accused had already been given in jail custody.

The Gulshan SP added that if both parties intended to reach a compromise to settle the case out of court, then they had to appear before the investigation officer concerned to this effect, but so far, no one had approached them.
