SWABI: After fielding Sohail Yousafzai as candidate for the office of Topi tehsil nazim, the PTI is struggling to name his deputy, naib nazim.
Imran Khan’s party has a very good chance of forming the tehsil government for having a clear majority in Topi tehsil council with 14 members. It is followed by the PML-N with three members and the JUI-F one. Insiders said Mohammad Younas, Nemat Khan and Nadeem Khan were the frontrunners for the naib nazim’s candidature.
They said the party was likely to name its candidate for the office during a meeting today (Saturday) to be attended by Speaker of the provincial assembly Asad Qaisar.
PTI district president Rangaiz Khan said he didn’t know who the party’s naib nazim candidate would be.
As for three other Swabi tehsils and district, there is a greater likelihood of the seven-party alliance forming local governments with the PTI and allies acting as the opposition. In a related development, Jamaat-i-Islam has fielded Wahid Shah as its candidate for the election of Swabi tehsil nazim. The district administration said all arrangements had been finalised for the councilors’ oath-taking ceremony slated for today (Saturday). It said the ceremony would have morning and evening sessions as councilors were in large numbers.
FIRST INDUCTION IN COLLEGE: The Gajju Khan Medical College Swabi has planned to induct the first batch of students today (Saturday).
During a workers’ function here, the ANP leaders said the credit for the college’s establishment went to their party as its government had begun the project.
ANP district president Ameer Rehman said the college project had denied the impression cleared by rivals that his party didn’t initiate any mega project in the district during its five years rule. — Correspondent
