PESHAWAR: Three children were killed and several others injured as torrential rain hit Peshawar and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Thursday.

One minor girl was killed and 14 others got injuries after windstorm and rain hit Peshawar in the afternoon.

Spokesman for Rescue 1122 said that a minor girl had been identified as Sana who expired at the Lady Reading Hospital where 14 wounded persons were also brought for treatment.

Speedy winds uprooted trees in the city and its outskirts, and this was followed by heavy rain. Several walls collapsed in different parts of the city that caused injuries to the people. Trees also fell on the power transmission line which disrupted electricity to major wards in LRH.

Met office said that 15mm rain was recorded in the provincial capital. Cherat in Nowshera district received 30mm and Kohat 26mm rain.

In Lower Dir, two children were killed and three others injured as roof of their house collapsed at Damtal area of Samar Bagh on Thursday, residents said.

They said the roof of the house of Sahib Zarin caved in as wooden shaft of one of the rooms was broken due to heavy rain. As a result, two children Usra, 13, and Sumaira, 9, were killed on the spot while three other children Shahab, Naila and Fauzia got injuries. The injured were taken to tehsil headquarters hospital, Samar Bagh, where their condition was stated to be stable.
