LAHORE: Jamiat Ulema Pakistan (JUP) President Pir Ijaz Hashmi claims that four of the six constituents of the defunct religious alliance, Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal, have agreed to form a new grouping “to regain the glory” these parties enjoyed during Musharraf regime.

Talking to the media here on Wednesday, Hashmi said the Jamaat-i-Islami, the Jamiat Ulema Isalm (F) of Fazlur Rehman faction and Islami Tehrik of Allama Sajid Naqvi have agreed to enter into a new alliance, which is likely to take part in the Punjab and Sindh local body polls.

The defunct MMA had lost its worth when the JI and JUI-F clashed over dissolution of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly in 2007.

Hashmi said contacts were being made to attract more religious groups to the alliance in the making.
