PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Pervez Khattak has ordered shifting of commercial entities, offices and educational institutions from the University Town, Peshawar without inflicting any harm on students and educational institutions.

The chief minister directed the district administration to work out modalities for resolving the grievances of the residents of University Town amicably, said a statement issued here on Tuesday.

The chief minister also ordered reconstruction of all roads and footpaths along with all allied facilities and civic amenities, complete rehabilitation of the drainage system and parks besides installation of modern security system in the town. He set the deadline of June 30 next for completion of all the works.

Mr Khattak issued these orders in response to the problems and demands presented by a joint delegation of the University Town Residents Association and the Ladies Club at a meeting here on Tuesday.

The delegation, led by MPA Yasin Khalil, called on the chief minister at his secretariat on Tuesday. MNA Sajida Zulfiqar, secretaries of local government and public health engineering departments, deputy commissioner of Peshawar, superintendent engineer of Pesco, administrator of Municipal Corporation and other officers concerned also attended the meeting.

MPA Yaseen Khalil said on this occasion that an amount of Rs456.7 million had already been approved for rehabilitation of the town infrastructure and beautification.

The chief minister listened to the problems presented by the delegation and issued orders in this regard.

Taking notice of illegal construction on 78-kanal land of the Ladies Club, Mr Khattak sought a detailed report on the issue and assured the delegation of retrieving the land from the illegal occupants at any cost.

He also assured the delegation of providing the required financial resources for renovation of the Ladies Club and construction of a mini-sports complex in the club. He also issued order for immediate removal of the barriers erected by a foreign mission on a road of the town and opening it for general public.
