RAWALPINDI: “I was standing under the roof when it collapsed with a big bang after the suicide attack and a heavy concrete beam fell on me,” Sajid Khan, the gunman of DSP Shaukat Ali Shah, told Dawn from his hospital bed here on Sunday.

The police officer also lost his life in the terror attack.

Sajid Khan was among the five injured who were brought to Rawalpindi where two of them - Abdul Qayyum and Mohammad Zaman - died at the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital.

Though the condition of Sajid Khan was stated to be out of danger at the Benazir Bhutto Hospital, he was not allowed by doctors to talk anymore to visitors as he had sustained injuries to his head, ears and the forehead.

However, doctors at the Holy Family Hospital described the condition of Gharib Nawaz, the driver of Shuja Khanzada, as critical.

Agha Khan, another injured shifted to the DHQ hospital, was also stated to be in a critical condition.

A large number of relatives and friends of the victims also reached the hospitals in Rawalpindi and some of them were seen outside the hospitals checking lists containing the names of those killed and injured in the attack.

One of the relatives of the victims at the DHQ told Dawn that his cousin was attending the “Jirga” held by the provincial minister when the suicide bomber blew himself up.

The bodies of the two victims of the attack who died after reaching the DHQ hospital were sent back to Attock.
