LAHORE: The three-day Harappa International Conference started at a hotel here on Saturday.

The conference is being hosted by Sahiwal Campus of COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT).

Prof Dr Haroon Rashid, Pro-Rector of the COMSATS Institute of Information Technology (CIIT), gave keynote address while Rana Mashood, the minister for education, sports, youth affairs, archaeology and culture, inaugurated the conference.

On Saturday, 10 scholars, who remained involved with the excavations of the ancient site of Harappa for several decades, read out their papers.

Dr Nizamuddin, chairman of Punjab Higher Education Commission, also spoke on occasion.

It is learnt in the first two days of the conference, sessions would be held in Lahore while last day sessions would be held at Sahiwal campus of COMSATS, followed by one-day trip to Harappa.

The conference is being organised in collaboration with the Higher Education Commission, Punjab Higher Education Commission and Department of Archaeology. Thirty national and international archaeologists and scholars arrived to participate in conference.
