RAWALPINDI: The local administration has taken a number of steps to improve security at educational institutions that are opening on August 17 after summer vacations.

A divisional intelligence committee meeting, which met here the other day with Commissioner Zahid Saeed in the chair, decided that the local administration would write letters to heads of all educational institutions seeking details of the security arrangements adopted by them in their respective institutions.

In Rawalpindi district, the law enforcement agencies have already declared more than 206 educational institutions sensitive and recommended special security measures for them (institutions).

For monitoring the security arrangements, the security audit committees, comprising deputy superintendent of police and assistant commissioner, will visit the educational institutions to ascertain whether or not their administrations were following the standard operating procedure for the security.

Meanwhile, Commissioner Zahid Saeed has asked the law enforcement agencies to identify the areas where child abuse cases took place, sources told Dawn. The sources said he would submit a report in this regard to the provincial government within a week. The sources told Dawn that the move was aimed at avoiding Kasur like incidents.

The sources said the local police and the administration would survey the areas where such cases were more common. “Pirwadhai area in the garrison city was pointed out by the police but the commissioner wants a complete report in this regard,” he said.
