Additional sessions judge gunned down in Rawalpindi

RAWALPINDI: Unknown men on Wednesday killed an additional district and sessions judge in Rawalpindi's Sadiqabad Town area.
Three unknown gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire on the vehicle of the judge as he was leaving his Judges Colony residence in Sadiqabad area of Rawalpindi. The assailants managed to escape from the scene after the attack.
The judge, who was identified as Tahir Khan Niazi, was shifted to Benazir Bhutto Hospital where he succumbed to his wounds during treatment. Hospital sources said that the judge had died due to excessive bleeding.
Rescue and security personnel personnel reached the site of attack. Policemen cordoned off the area as a probe into the incident went underway.
Police officials are also going through the CCTV footage obtained from Niazi's residence.
A large number of lawyers had gathered outside the hospital after receiving the news of the judge's death.
His body was shifted to the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital for a postmortem.

More people die in US from gun violence everyday than in Pakistan. Is US a safe country? Yes it is, like Pakistan is. Because LEAs go after the killers and more often than not apprehend them. I'm very hopeful criminals will be apprehended and face the justice in this case too.

in country where useless politicians have A grade security which is total waste of money of common man and those who needs some security r dying every day. who will raise the voice? judges need to be protected other wise there will be no justice and culprits will freely enjoy their life and further increase the crime. in pakistan only president prime minister and judges and some lawyers involve in high profile cases deserve best security. while all other politician r garbage.

It is funny how you can assassinate a judge in front a the judges residential colony and get away with it that easily. It should be a sensitive area but I guess the government knows better and protects the elected and not individuals who are most at risk. Our police force needs a massive revamp and the ability to respond to these attaches in a much more efficient way. RIP Mr. Niazi.

Pakistani court always maintains that India is not giving them enough proof for the 26/11 case trials. Well, other perception is that the judges are threatened by the terrorists, not to accept the proof or convict the accused, otherwise they will be killed. It appears that killing high ranking officials like judges is not very difficult in Pakistan. Many judges hearing the 26/11 trials have asked for transfers and many have just absconded. The government should try to provide more security for these officials in order to enable them to be fair and not scared.

Sad day very sad day indeed!
My father was a District and Sessions Judge in Rawalpindi during Ayub's tenure....never had body guard...and slept outside at night without security or body guards ever and never owned a gun or pistol for protection.
What we call "Progress" is when life and property is safe! Our priorities have been changed.

Most such murders are committed in Pakistan by terrorists on motor cycles, why don't the authorities consider letting loose plain clothes policemen on motorcycles in the cities to be on the lookout for bike riding murderers? Many countries have plainclothes Policemen among the general public to watch out for criminals. Or, if practical, make it illegal for two adults to ride on a motor bike. Think out of the box to minimise such murders.

The Punjab police is requested to track down the culprits in any case and train the general public through media awareness and be friendly to report crime with videos as everyone is having camera mobiles in hand to cover the scene with closeup and put the film on facebook of Punjab Police or be reported directly to the special cell in Lahore Headquarter and a special team of Information Technology be formed and do not let the actual culprits go unattended. I think one day the culprits will realize how they are dealt with an iron hands.. A few days before, an employee of American Embassy was shot dead. The lives of Pakistanis are not so cheap that they may be killed with a single bullet of Rupees 5 or so. Please focus on this issue..if you need peace in this country and if you want to save your generations.
