KARAK: The Jamiat Ulema Islam-F has named Maulana Mirzaqeem as its candidate for the district nazim slot and also formed a committee tasked with holding negotiations with the heads of political parties, including the tripartite alliance, to secure the coveted post.

The decision was taken in a meeting in Tangori Sar here on Sunday with JUI-F district president Hafiz Ibne Ameen in the chair.

The meeting was attended by the party’s newly-elected district councillors, cabinet members, former provincial minister Mian Nisar Gul and workers.

It also decided that the district presidents of the tripartite alliance would be taken in confidence before naming the district nazim slot.

The religio-political party secured six district councillor seats during the May 30 local government elections in the province. It also claims support of seven independents and a seat won by its ally ANP.

It to mention here that Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf won seven district council seats from 20 union councils, while election on Nari Panos union council is yet to be completed due to a case pending in high court.

The JUI meeting also decided to contact the political parties which have representation in the district council assembly.

Political observers expect a close contest for the coveted slot of district chairman between Maualna Mirzaqeem of JUI-F and PTI candidate, who is yet be named.
