Though Rani Mukerji hasn't been in the news of late, she still knows how to create a stir.

Recently married to producer Aditya Chopra, Mukerji appears content to look back on a career spanning a good twenty years. "At this moment, when I'm not working on a new film, I am the rich producer's wife. It's something I'm very comfortable with," she tells Vogue.

We couldn't have guessed it given her filmi family background, but Rani didn't think very highly of show business before her own induction into the starry world.

In fact, the actress turned down the first role that was offered to her when she was a student of class 10. "Salim uncle offered me Aa Gale Lag Jaa (1994), which eventually Urmila (Matondkar) did. I remember crying as if he'd offered me this really nasty thing. I looked down upon acting. In school, I used to hide the fact that I was from a film family."

Rani eventually did her first film in 1998, the action flick Ghulam starring Aamir Khan. She was an instant hit.

"It was actually very strange," she reminsces about her debut shoot, "The only comforting thing was that the producer was someone my parents knew for a long time. I grew up calling him Salim uncle (Salim Akhtar). And my mother was by my side throughout."

Fast forward a decade and a half, and Rani is looking forward to some more "kickass films" and “lovely babies beside me as I go to the set”.

Will she go the Chopra way and turn to production/direction?

“There’s nothing stopping me," comes the reply. "Adi (Aditya Chopra) would never say no. But I see the way my husband works. He’s the most hard working person in his studio and the last one to leave at night. I wouldn’t want to risk his or his company’s name by doing something juvenile."

That's good news for Rani's fans! We're sure they'd prefer that she faces the camera instead.
