DERA GHAZI KHAN: Raging waters have swept away a 300-foot portion of the Indus Highway along with the inter-provincial bridge at Khud Buzdar, 190 kilometres from here near KP’s boundary in Taunsa Sharif.
Torrential rains on the mountains of Sulaiman Range and Balochistan caused a high flood in Wahowah drain which swept away 300-foot portion of the highway. The drains flowing towards east to the river Indus are in high flood.
Previously, floods in these mountain drains used to irrigate thousands of acres of arid zone through water channels which have now been encroached upon by landlords.
Water flow in Wahowah drain was 140,000 cusec on Friday, inundating Jalo Ali, Maneywali, Bait Fateh Khan and Kotani areas beside devastating standing crops.
The district government has sought help of army engineers to restore the highway.
District Coordination Officer Nadeemur Rehman said the inter-provincial traffic would soon be restored.
