RAWALPINDI: Two murder convicts were executed in the Central Jail Adiala on Thursday while the hanging of three others, including two brothers, was stayed. Six condemned prisoners have so far been executed in the Adiala and Attock jails since the executions resumed after Ramazan.

According to the jail authorities, Mohammad Aslam was the first to be hanged in the Adiala jail after Eidul Fitr on Wednesday. He was arrested in a murder case registered by the Choa Syedan Shah police in 2001.

Aftab Ahmed and his father Mohammad Usman were hanged in the Attock jail. They were arrested in a murder case in 1998. Mohammad Safdar, the third condemned prison, who was executed in Attock jail on Wednesday, was arrested by the Khushab police in a murder case in August 2003.

The hanging of Mohammad Aslam and his brother Mohammad Azam in the district jail of Jhelum in a murder case of 1999 was stayed on Wednesday night.

When contacted, the superintendent of the district jail Jhelum, Mazhar Chaudhry, confirmed the stay.

Aslam was sentenced to death for murdering his father-in-law in 1999. His brother Mohammad Azam was also convicted in the same murder case.

Mohammad Arshad, Jehandad Khan and Ikhlaq Ahmed were to be hanged at the Adiala jail on Thursday. However, Ikhlaq’s hanging was stayed after his relatives succeeded in making a patch-up with the family of the man murdered by him in 2000 in Hassanabdal.

Arshad was arrested along with his mother Zaitoon Bibi on August 11, 2001, in a double murder case registered with the Chontra police. However, his mother was later released by the court of law.

Jehandad along with Sultan Khan was arrested on April 24, 2002, for killing Fazlur Rehman. However, Sultan was later released.
