ISLAMABAD: Rangers have shared the record of allegedly illegal allotment of land in Sindh with the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), a senior official of the bureau told Dawn on Thursday.

The NAB on the basis of the record has intensified investigation into the allotment of state land and decided to interrogate many officials of Sindh government, including Chief Secretary Siddique Memon.

The information provided by the Rangers was recently discussed at the NAB’s executive board meeting and it was decided that the bureau would hold investigation against the former chief secretary and some senior officers of the Sindh Revenue Department.

The officers concerned are accused of illegally allotting 530 acres of state land to private persons and misusing authority, causing a loss of Rs5.3 billion to the exchequer.

On June 15, the Rangers raided the offices of the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) to check illegal construction on and illegal allotment of state land in Karachi.

On the basis of the record provided, NAB is also investigating former director general of the SBCA, Manzoor Qadir.

Talking to Dawn, National Accountability Bureau spokesman Nawazish Ali confirmed that investigation against Mr Memon had started.

“Not only Mr Memon but some other officers of the Sindh government are facing National Accountability Bureau’s investigation, he said.
