KARACHI: Unseeded Farhan Hashim created the biggest upset when he knocked out top seed Atta Abbas in the men’s singles pre quarter-finals of the Young Stars ranking table tennis tournament at the Sindh Sports Board complex on Thursday.
Hashim struggled to whip Abbas in the fully stretched battle 12-10, 11-5, 12-14, 6-11, 13-11 to advance into the quarters.
Similarly, youthful Hamza Godil produced awesome performance while outwitting Asim Hussain, who was amongst top players of the province in the past, straight 11-9, 11-7, 11-9 to enter men’s singles last eight.
Abeera Ali and Noureen Farhan meanwhile, stepped into the women’s singles final after registering emphatic victories over their respective opponents.
The former cruised to 11-7, 13-11, 11-6 victory over Sameera Wajahat while the latter defeated Hareem Anwar 11-6, 11-7, 11-4.
Meanwhile, talented Hareem Anwar lived up to her top billing by capturing a double crown.
She first carved out 11-9, 11-4, 11-4 victory over Mariam Faiq for under-15 success and later fought tooths and nails to register 5-11, 14-12, 9-11, 12-10, 12-10 victory over Haleema Ali for the under-18 crown.
