PESHAWAR: The United Nations Development Programme opened on Tuesday a new regional sub-office in the provincial capital.

A statement issued here said the new office was inaugurated by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa additional chief secretary Dr Hammad Uwais Agha and UNDP country director Marc-Andre Franche. On the occasion, Mr Franche said the UNDP had a long and successful partnership with the governments of KP and Pakistan.

“The establishment of sub-office in Peshawar reaffirms our commitment to work with the government and people of KP and to bring about improvements in the sustainable human development of the region,” he said.

The sub-office was set up after the UNDP Pakistan signed a memorandum of understanding with the government of KP in 2014. The office is meant to provide an increased institutional presence and coordination of UNDP projects in KP and Fata. The statement said the sub-office was also the convening agency for the One UN programme in KP.
