ISLAMABAD: An Afghan military delegation is visiting Pakistan for talks on recent cross-border shelling and other security issues.

“A seven-member mid-ranking Afghan delegation is here for discussion on border coordination,” a defence source said.

The talks will take place in Peshawar at the corps headquarters.

The Afghan delegation’s visit comes on the heels of a visit by Commander Resolute Support Mission and US Forces in Afghanistan General John Campbell, who met Army Chief Gen Raheel Sharif on Thursday at GHQ in Rawalpindi to discuss the border coordination.

The Afghan delegation includes a representative of the National Security Council, and officials of the military’s operations directorate and border police.

During the meeting, the Afghan side is likely to raise the issue of cross-border shelling reportedly by Pakistani troops in Kunar, Nangarhar and Paktika provinces.
