ISLAMABAD: A superintendent of the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) was removed from his post on the charge of provoking the personnel against their senior officers over the distribution of the reward money from the fine imposed on motorists.

Despite repeated attempts, the SP could not be contacted for his comments on the matter.

Under the law, 25 per cent of the fine amount received from the motorists is given to the personnel of the traffic police.

Sources in the police said two months ago the ITP received its share of 25 per cent from the fine imposed on motorists during the fiscal year 2013-14.

This 25 per cent share amounted to Rs30 million. According to the standard operating procedure, 80 per cent of the share - Rs24 million - was distributed among the officials of the ITP while the remaining 25 per cent - Rs7.6 million - given to the Central Police Office (CPO).

However, the CPO returned its share to the ITP asking it to distribute the amount among the officials. But this amount did not reach the officials.

When contacted, acting SSP of the traffic police, Khalid Rasheed, told Dawn that it was not an issue and the amount would be distributed among the officials soon.
