ISLAMABAD: To appoint vice chancellor of The University of Poonch, Rawalakot, a search committee conducted interviews of short-listed candidates at the Higher Education Commission (HEC) on Wednesday.

HEC Chairman Dr Mukhtar Ahemd is head of the search committee. The interview process will continue till Thursday.

“A total of 19 candidates are in the run; today we conducted interviews of around 10 candidates and the remaining have been asked to come on Thursday,” Dr Mukhtar Ahmed told Dawn.

A source at HEC said that the acting vice chancellor, Poonch University, Prof Dr Kaleem Abbasi, VC AJK University Prof Dr Syed Dilnawaz Ahmed Gardezi, acting executive director HEC Prof Dr Mansoor Kundi, VC University of Peshawar Prof Dr Muhammad Rasul Jan and pro-vice chancellor are among the 19 candidates.

According to the HEC chairman, the committee, after finalising three names, will send that to the university’s senate. Then, he said, the senate will forward the three names to AJK president, who is chancellor of the varsity.
