LAHORE: Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Sunday directed the authorities concerned to make planning for recruitment of specialist doctors and nurses for the Pakistan Kidney and Liver Transplant Institute & Research Centre, saying the government would send doctors and nurses abroad for training with its own resources.

He issued instructions for the setting up of a technical sub-committee for making immediate decisions on important matters of the project.

He was addressing a meeting of the board of governors of kidney and liver transplant institute, said a handout.

Shahbaz said due attention should be paid to all the matters during planning and designing of the project. He said all the modern medical facilities would be available to kidney and liver patients under one roof at the state-of-the-art institute.

The CM said the kidney and liver transplant institute would have to be completed speedily, adding that it would be a unique institution of its kind in the country and a milestone in public health sector.

He said the institute would be equipped with health facilities of international standard for the common man. He said a research centre would also be set up in the institution while a programme had been evolved to establish a medical university also.

Shahbaz said no effort should be spared for the achievement of the fixed timeline, adding that a provincial steering committee should hold meetings regularly after every 15 days for the completion of the project.

Board of Governors President Dr Saeed Akhtar gave a briefing on various aspects of the project. The meeting gave approval to some matters.

Advisor on Health Khawaja Salman Rafique, the Planning and Development chairman, secretaries of Finance, Health and Communication and Works, Lahore commissioner, DCO and others were present.
