KARACHI: Tapal CC sealed their berth in the quarter-finals of the 30th Karachi Gymkhana Omar Associates Ramazan Cricket Festival with a tense three-wicket victory over Dubai Islamic Bank (DIB) at the KG Ground here on Sunday.

Tapal CC’s second win enabled them to finish second in Group ‘D’ behind Rivo Mobile.

After curtailing DIB to 104-6 in the stipulated 20 overs, Tapal CC lost seven wickets before winning in the 13th over of the chase. Man-of-the-match Jahandad Khan struck 36 from 27 balls with four boundaries and one six while Naved Khan also made 36 with his 29-ball knock featuring four hits to the fence.

In Sunday’s afternoon fixture, hosts Karachi Gymkhana Blues scored a consolation six-wicket Group ‘B’ win against Shaboo Star C of Quetta.

Shaz Shahjani was adjudged man-of-the-match for his grand all-round performance of 2-29 and a 35-ball innings of 44 (35 balls, six fours), while slow left-armer Rafay Safdar bowled well to claim 4-28 for the winning side.
