THIS is apropos ‘The world’s unwanted’ (June 24), by Rafia Zakaria. The author has very illustratively highlighted the philosophy of hatred among humans triggered by difference through the case of refugees and migrants.
Economic difference, created by capitalists, has turned them into an unwanted group. This pandemic of difference invoking hatred can be observed in other spheres of human existence; for example, there is an unwanted lot in the sphere of gender that has been created by patriarchs.
Similar unwanted lots have been created on the basis of religious, racial, linguistic and ethnic differences. Though human beings are diverse, this diversity has not been defined inclusively; therefore, sometimes being different carries a huge price, as highlighted in the cases enumerated above. Unfortunately, people have blindly embraced the status quo. There is a dire need to celebrate our rich diversity.
