KARAK: The qul of renowned Pashto poet Ameenullah Khamosh was observed at his residence at Darab Kalay here on Saturday.

Poets, educationists, scholars and people from all walks of life in large numbers attended the function. The participants prayed for the departed soul to rest in peace.

Mr Khamosh, 90, remained editor of monthly Sasalay, a literary periodical, and the founder member of Lawagher Adabi Karvan. He was considered to be a guide for young poets.

He was also a pioneer of independent ‘nazam’ in Pashto poetry and was the author of three poetry books ‘Majoon’, ‘Qataroona’ and Zanray ta Khitab. Khamosh also used to write columns on historical subjects to different periodicals. He retired as Senior English Teacher from the education department.

BASIC AMENITIES sought: A committee of sixteen villages of Nashpa block, where the oil and gas exploration is taking place, has demanded basic amenities to the residents and tree plantation to neutralise the effects of exploration activities.

The demands were made at a meeting here on Saturday chaired by the committee president Malik Azizur Rehman Khattak.

The participants said the OGDCL had been paying very nominal rent for their lands being used for exploration activities.
