KARACHI: For the first time in at least over a decade, horse racing fraternity focused on Ramazan instead of gambling at the Karachi Racecourse.

Normally, it has remained a practice that three races are held in the month of Ramazan spread over 18 to 20 days followed by a break. The races resumes after Eid and the dates will be announced later.

However, the year 2015 was a different. It has, perhaps, gone into the annals of the KRC that no races took place during Ramazan.

After taking out the handicap the other day, the KRC has abruptly cancelled the Gymkhana race meeting that was scheduled to take place on Sunday (July 5).

“Yes the meeting has been cancelled and will now take place after Eid,” a spokesman for the KRC confided to Dawn on Saturday.

It is pertinent to mention that the preceding two races on June 21 and 28 were also cancelled owing to persisting heat, fewer and indisposition of horses.
