ISLAMABAD: The twin cities received unexpected thundershowers early on Thursday which not only brought down the mercury level but also made the weather pleasant.

The few hours of rain brought heavy downpour in the federal capital, including 59mm in Golra, 24mn in Zero Point and 21mm in Saidpur while Rawalpindi received 30mm of rainfall.

The Met Office predicted another brief spell on Friday in the twin cities and scattered places in Bahawalpur, Multan, D.G. Khan and Zhob divisions.

Rains are also expected in isolated places in Malakand, Hazara, Peshawar, Kohat, Bannu, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sahiwal, Sargodha, Quetta divisions, upper Fata, Baltistan and Kashmir.

A satellite imagery taken at 7pm on Thursday and posted on the website of the Met Office showed only a small cloud pattern over Balochistan, while there was no sign of clouds all over Pakistan, Afghanistan and even northwestern India.

However, the Met Office said a seasonal low lies over northwest Balochistan and adjoining areas with its trough extending to the northeast ward.

“Since light to moderate moist air currents are moving towards north and east of Balochistan, rains at some places are expected on Friday,” a Met official said. He said the Met Office had already stated that Ramazan would be pleasant and mild due to the intermittent rainfall after intervals of 4-5 days.
