GUJRAT: Additional Superintendent of Police Kamran Mumtaz dismissed around 12 policemen from service for being absent from duty for long.

Mumtaz issued the dismissal orders following an inquiry against the officials who were absent, and found at least 12, including a head constable and a new recruit, guilty.

Meanwhile, District Police Officer (DPO) Rai Zameerul Haq promoted 40 constables to head constable. DPO Haq also paid a visit to the Gujrat District Bar Association as a goodwill gesture.

Show-cause notice: Punjab Additional Chief Secretary Mubashir Raza has issued a show-cause notice to Assistant Commissioner Shoaib Nissoana for alleged poor management at the Sara-i-Alamgir Ramazan bazaar.

Raza paid a surprise visit to Ramazan bazaars in Kharian and Sara-i-Alamgir three days ago.

Official sources said he got upset over the poor arrangements of the bazaars and immediately ordered the assistant commissioners concerned to surrender. However, the district administration’s explanation brought the temperatures down and the verbal orders of surrendering were not translated into writing.

On Tuesday, the additional chief secretary issued a show-cause notice to Nissoana.

TRAFFIC: The district traffic police launched a traffic awareness week and set up different camps at busy squares in urban areas of the district where motorists will be sensitised about the importance of using helmets on motorcycles.

Traffic Deputy Superintendent of Police Mian Sohail Fazil launched the awareness camp at GTS Chowk where some motorists were also distributed free helmets.

PROTEST: Officials of the Gujrat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GTCCI) lodged a strong protest with senior hierarchy of the social security department against what they called harassment of local small traders and industrialists at the hands of the department.

Social Security Director Muzaffar Mohsin held a meeting with members concerned of the GTCCI to listen to their grievances.
