UNITED NATIONS: Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon says the world should be ashamed that three years after major powers approved a blueprint in Geneva to bring peace to Syria the suffering of its people is reaching new depths.
The UN chief said more than 220,000 Syrians have died in the conflict, now in its fifth year, almost half the population has been forced to flee their homes, and civilians still face attacks by barrel bombs and “horrendous” human rights violations including torture and prolonged detention of tens of thousands.
Ban stressed in a statement on Tuesday that “it is time to find an exit from this madness”.
He said the UN Security Council, which has been deeply divided over Syria, and the international community must not waste more time in ending the cycle of violence.

With the Syrian conflict getting more complex, UN is unable to make a decision. If Assad is overthrown, then you have to live with Islamic state rule which will kill another half a million people in one year. With the superpower and other powerful nations pulling out of Afghanistan, they have no appetite to enter Syria. Lesson learned from Afghanistan clearly states we cannot put our soldiers on ground in Syria. There is no exit strategy; unless Syria is broken up in 3 pieces, one for Alawite/Shia/Christian and Druze, one for Sunnis, and the third for Kurds. A Kurd nation in Syria will be dangerous for Turkey. Where is all this going to end ? The regional powers, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Iran will have to take the lead and come up with a complete solution. This is no easy matter.

Mr. Secretary General The world should be ashamed of starting the Libyan and Syrian conflicts. These are crimes against humanity and the UN Mandate requires you to investigate and assign blame appropriately instead of making vague statements.
It is time you get the investigation done and name names and put the countries such as France and UK (for Libya).
Do your job instead of being a lap dog of big powers.

Ashamed for what? When the leaders responsible for conflict are not ashamed? The OIC is not ashamed the Muslim countries are not ashamed, the UN is not ashamed then why should the rest of the world be ashamed? What is the significance of UN anyway other than wasted money on diplomats?

How about Rohingya Muslims in Mynamar. This is the proof that true world Muslims population do not trust UN, the West and their own governments. Past example was the European Bosnian Muslims genocide by Serbian war machines.

All so called humanity lover Muslims are sleeping, they rise only when a non Muslim country attacks Muslim country. More than 200,000 killed in Syria , more than 3000 killed in yemen but no one is protesting against this, they only protest when Israel attacks Gaza. This is hard truth.If Muslim world itself don't care , how they expect a third party will come for peace.??

It's extremely sad. Hundreds of thousands killed, millions displaced and as much are compelled to live in terror without access to basic necessities. The world is just a spectator, no body cares and those who care(The General public) are helpless. Unfortunately world politics is devoid of principles and morality, only national interests drive the policies of states and probably it's in the interest of some powers to set the whole middle east on fire.

He is saying this as if it our fault, he is the one who should be ashamed of and also the one he worships to. Blaming others for the responsibility that was laid on him and his community is not a smart thing to do. Failures again and again shows how weak is the UN is resolving issues.

World peace can be achieved by treating all nations equal. The mother of all illnesses in post 1945 era is United Nation's "Security Council". Dissolving UN's Security Council will bring peace. If that is not possible then we should work towards the creation of a new united nations forum as soon as possible, informally if not possible.

It should be the UN(made in USA) to be ashamed where only the resolutions favouring the US are passed. US is the root cause of all conflicts in Middle East and they are ignited at the behest of Israel, the sole keep of USA in middle east.

Mr. Ban, I think the headline of this news article also suits you as you being from Korean peninsula have failed to resolve the two Koreas' differences. As for UNSC, it is in the doldrums and it has been politicized at a greater scale where nepotism and bias persists regarding international affairs. Palestine is one case among others to substantiate this claim.
