PESHAWAR: Two people were killed and four injured when rival groups clashed in Shaikhabad locality of the provincial capital here on Sunday.

An official of Gulbahar police said the clash occurred over fighting among children. The rivals started abusing each other and later exchanged fire.

The firing resulted in the killing of two people and injuries to four others. The deceased were identified as Inayatur Rehman and Sultan-ur-Rehman while the injured were Arsalan, Haroon, Iftikhar and Zeeshan. The injured persons were shifted to Lady Reading Hospital.

However, a police investigator said the people had developed differences over an honour related issue, but they did not share the information with the police. Police filed cross FIRs and began making efforts to arrest the accused.

Meanwhile, a motorcyclist, Sher Wali, was killed and his cousin, Ismail was injured as result of a head-on collision with a tractor on G T Road in Chamkani area on Sunday.

A police official said the deceased sustained head injuries and was shifted to Lady Reading Hospital but could not survive. Police said the tractor’s driver managed to escape.

Also in the day, the relatives of the four sisters shot dead on Saturday took out a procession and blocked GT Road at Hashtnagri for sometime against the police failure to arrest the suspected killers.

The people shouted slogans against the local police and urged Peshawar High Court chief justice to take suo motu notice of the incident. The protestors said that main accused in the case was a constable of special police force and thus he was not arrested.

The protesters also appealed to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police chief to order arrest the killer.

OUTLAW GUNNED DOWN: Police claimed on Sunday to have gunned down an alleged target killer in an encounter in Hazarkhwani area in suburbs of Peshawar.

SSP Dr Mian Saeed told Dawn Naseer alias Karechay had been declared a proclaimed offender in cases of murder and attempted murder. He said the outlaw opened fire on police after seeing them coming towards his residence.

“He was notorious hired killer, proclaimed offender in many cases but he was not nominated by the area people due to the terror he had spread among them,” another official at Yakatoot police station said.

Meanwhile, police claimed busting a nine-member gang of motorcycle snatchers and robbers and recovering three stolen bikes, four mobile phones, Rs10,000 and pistols from their possession. City circle SP Mohammad Afzal told mediapersons the robbers and motorcycle snatchers were identified as Farman, Shakir, Sanaullah, Shakir, Ahmed of Afghanistan, Abu Bakar Siddique, Jamil Khan, and two accused with the namesake of Nauman.
