PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) police have registered 1,516 cases against those holding fake Computerised National Identity Cards (CNICs), said police.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police Nasir Khan Durrani had earlier directed police officers to register cases against those involved in preparation of fake CNICs.

Citing a report, KP police spokesperson Riaz Ahmed said that both locals and foreigners had obtained 76,000 fake CNICs.

According to police, 802 cases have been registered in the provincial capital of Peshawar against fake identity card holders, 460 cases in Mardan, 49 in Kohat, 85 in Malakand, 27 in Bannu, 49 in Hazara and 44 cases have been registered in Dera Ismail Khan.

Furthermore, 960 cases were registered against those who had attested and verified documents of the fake CNICs holders, while 26 cases were lodged against agents involved in fake identity cards scandals.
