PESHAWAR: Civil Judge Nowshera Abdul Wahab Qureshi on Tuesday granted bail to Awami National Party (ANP) central general secretary Mian Iftikhar Hussain in the case pertaining to the killing of a Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) activist in Pabbi area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's Nowshera district.

Iftikhar Hussain was arrested on Sunday after a young man was killed during clashes between PTI and ANP activists following the announcement of the Local Government polls results in the area.

The Nowshera court granted bail to Iftikhar against surety bonds worth Rs200,000.

Talking to reporters after his release on bail, Iftikhar Hussain said that, "A probe should be carried out to identify those who had pressurised the father of the deceased into adding my name in the First Information Report."

He added that he did not want any one else to be victimised like he was.

Talking about Inspector General Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Nasir Durrani's statement that First Information Report (FIR) was filed against the ANP central general secretary to "evacuate and protect him" from the clutches of the charged activists, Iftikhar said that police and Army personnel had risked their lives while trying to evacuate him.

"But the inclusion of my name in the FIR registered by KP police was beyond comprehension," he added.
