SAHIWAL: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has announced that by-election to NA-162, Sahiwal-III, Chichawatni, will be held on July 5.

Rai Hasan Nawaz, the disqualified PTI MNA, said he would challenge the Multan Election Tribunal’s decision in the Supreme Court.

The tribunal had disqualified Nawaz for concealing his assets in the 2013 general elections on the complaint of Haji Ayub who was runner-up as an independent candidate. It was the only seat the PTI won from Sahiwal; the other three MNAs are PML-N ticket-holders.

ECP Deputy Director Coordinator Shabbir Ahmed told Dawn that according to schedule candidates would submit their nomination paper on June 4-5, scrutiny of papers would be done on June 8-9, objections could be raised on June 15 and final list of candidates would be displayed on June 18.
