PESHAWAR: Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said on Thursday that ensuring peace in the country was prime responsibility of Frontier Constabulary.

Addressing the passing out parade of 2,340 recruits of Frontier Constabulary at FC Training Centre, Shabqadar in Charsadda district, he said that elements involved in violence would be dealt with iron hand.

The minister expressed the hope that the passed out recruits would follow the footprints of their heroes and predecessors and would foil nefarious designs of the enemies of the country.

He said that it was the prime responsibility of the force to play effective role in bringing peace to specific areas of the country.

Mr Nisar said that Islam was a religion of peace and harmony. “Few misguided people are using its name for violence and we have to frustrate designs of the enemies of the country,” he added.

He said that establishment of peace was their collective responsibility and they would not allow anyone to destabilise their country. The elements involved in attacking schools, buses, funerals, mosques and other public places deserved no mercy and would be dealt with iron hand, he added.

Mr Nisar said that recent statement of a defence minister of a country was sufficient proof to prove who was harbouring terrorism in the country. He said that the statement was an eye opener for the entire world and the international community should take serious notice of it.

“The people, government and military are on the same page in war against terrorism and we will wipe out terrorists, both internal and external, as we had successfully done in Swat. We will win this war Inshallah with support of masses,” the minister said and added that they needed to work with unity in one direction against the enemy.

About May 28, being observed as Yaum-i-Takbeer with reference to 1998 nuclear explosions, the minister said that it was a historic day in the history of the country as on that day they made their defence impregnable and nobody could dare to cast an evil eye on their country.

Mr Nisar gave the credit to the government for reduction in bomb and suicide blasts, saying when they came to power, five to six blasts, was a routine matter in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

He said he was proud to see such smartly turned out parade of FC contingents. He asked the passed out recruits to utilise their training and skills during their professional life and work with dedication and professional zeal.

The minister said that political interference in recruitment of FC had been discouraged while promotions were being done strictly on merit.

He said that government would enhance the capacity building and training of FC troops and assured that all genuine problems of the force would be addressed on priority basis.

Earlier, FC Commandant Liauqat Khan appraised the minister of the reforms, training and problems of the force. He said that FC was also performing duty at operational areas like Orakzai Agency, Bara and Tirah with great dedication.

On this occasion, the champion trophy was awarded to Champion Company while best all round performance trophy went to Dilbar Shah, best drill trophy to Khurshid Ahmed while Sohail Ahmed was declared overall best shooter.
