LAHORE: The regional police officers’ (RPOs) conference reviewed on Tuesday the implementation on the National Action Plan (NAP), restructuring of traffic police, settlement of pending promotion cases and security of foreign experts working on development projects.

Punjab IGP Mushtaq Ahmad Sukhera addressed the RPOs through video link at the Civil Secretariat, according to a handout.

He directed the RPOs to expedite implementation on the NAP in the light of apex committee’s decisions as a front line force on war against terrorism in the province.

The conference discussed restructuring of the traffic police and decided that a unified traffic warden system would be introduced in all cities of the province with a view to improving the traffic system, flow of traffic and redress of public complaints.

It was also decided that in future the posting tenure of traffic officers would not be more than three years and all officers/officials would be repatriated to their parent departments from traffic police.

The IGP was told that the transfer and posting of over 500 traffic officers had been made so far. The conference also decided that all field officers would directly monitor the licensing branches in their respective districts and also take strict action against the black sheep in these branches.

It decided that all field officers would ensure completion of pending promotion cases and forward them to the CPO within one month, so that the unrest among the officers could be redressed.

Mr Sukhera directed the RPOs to improve security at police lockups and police stations to prevent jailbreaks. They were also directed to ensure the setting up of bunkers on both sides of the police pickets besides the officers deployed on these pickets must use the bulletproof jackets and equipped with latest weapons.

He said the RPOs would hold a meeting with their investigation officers on a daily basis who are investigating the heinous crime cases and will submit their findings to CPO office directly.

The security of all foreign experts especially Chinese engaged in all development projects in Punjab was reviewed.
