KARACHI: Four suspected gangsters were shot dead in encounters in Mangh­o­pir and Lyari areas on Tues­day night.

According to officials, Ran­gers raided suspected hideouts of Lyari gangs in Mang­ho­pir area.

On seeing the Rangers, the gangsters reso­rt­ed to firing and a clash left two of them dead. They were identified as Nawaz Ali and Jehangir.

Nawaz was a key member of the Ghaffar Zikri gang and involved in 43 cases of murder and kidnapping for ransom, a Rangers spokesperson said.

In Lyari’s Chakiwara area, police claimed to have killed two suspected gangsters belo­n­ging to the Uzair Baloch gang. A police official identified the deceased as Aurang­zeb, 28, and Raheel Yusuf, 18.

Earlier in the evening, a suspect was shot dead in a ‘police encounter’ in Clifton.

Boat Basin police said a patrolling team signalled three men on a motorbike to stop, but they started firing.

One of the suspects was injured and arrested after an exchange of fire, while his accomplices escaped.

The injured suspect was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where doctors declared him dead.
