The federal government has funded the Lahore Orange Line metro to the tune of Rs162 billion but failed to provide the promised 50per cent share for the Rs27 billion K-IV water supply project for Karachi which has been pending since several years.
The Centre should show more concern for the water-starved citizens of Karachi. The city has been receiving only half of its water requirement because the K-IV water pipeline continues to remain in the doldrums.
The federal and Punjab governments are awarding contracts worth billions of rupees for high cost projects while water, a basic necessity, is not available to the people of Karachi. The haphazard distribution of water owing to KWSB mismanagement has further aggravated the problem.
The authorities responsible for the water shortage should get the K-IV project going on a fast track and ensure that water is available to all citizens of Karachi.

THE water shortage in Sector II-B, North Karachi has paralysed life. There is no water supply.
I request the chief engineer of the KWSB to make sure that water is supplied to the entire area on a regular basis.
